Ramalinga Reddy Resigns Days After Taking Office in Karnataka

Eight-time MLA Ramalinga Reddy has stunned Karnataka’s political establishment by resigning from his cabinet position just forty-eight hours after being sworn in. While the move signals internal friction over his assigned portfolio, the veteran politician maintains his five-decade commitment to the Congress party remains entirely intact.

Chief Minister DK Shivakumar dismissed concerns regarding the stability of his administration, characterizing the departure as a minor grievance rather than a systemic crisis. Reddy, who was appointed to the Major and Medium Irrigation portfolio, reportedly sought a different role within the government. Shivakumar publicly downplayed the tension, describing Reddy as a trusted ally and promising a swift resolution to the dispute.

Home Minister Priyank Kharge confirmed that senior party leadership is actively engaged in negotiations to address Reddy's concerns. Despite the abrupt exit, Reddy emphasized that his frustration is strictly limited to his portfolio allocation. He underscored his 53-year tenure with the Congress, framing his resignation as a specific request for a reassignment rather than a broader challenge to the current leadership.
