Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa led the demonstrations on Monday, framing the ceremony as a regressive act of caste discrimination. He demanded that local authorities initiate legal action against those responsible for the ritual, arguing that the administration’s focus remains misplaced. Alongside the demand for an FIR against the organizers, Randhawa turned his sights on the state government, challenging the Chief Minister to address the escalating drug crisis instead of policing political dissent.
Former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi characterized the protest as a direct challenge to the ideological stance of the BJP and the RSS. He labeled the purification event a manifestation of a discriminatory mindset that requires immediate systemic correction. The party’s mobilization signals a broader push to hold the state administration accountable for both the controversial ceremony and the subsequent legal maneuvers against their national leadership.
