U.S. Envoys Meet Putin in Moscow for Ukraine Peace Talks

Over three hours of closed-door discussions unfolded in Moscow this Saturday as Russian President Vladimir Putin met with U.S. emissaries Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. While the Kremlin described the dialogue as productive, the session concluded without any tangible breakthrough toward resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed the meeting, noting that both sides explored potential paths to a settlement while emphasizing the necessity of addressing the conflict's fundamental drivers. Despite the lack of an immediate accord, Ushakov highlighted that the conversation remained beneficial for both parties, touching upon the broader spectrum of bilateral economic relations.

The U.S. envoys, making their first visit to the Russian capital since January, are expected to carry the substance of these talks to Kyiv for a follow-up meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Throughout the deliberations, the Kremlin continued to frame the current situation through the lens of recent battlefield gains, even as diplomatic channels remain open despite persistent military friction.
