Rao dismissed the uproar surrounding the shuddhikaran ceremony at Haldwani’s Ramlila Ground as a calculated attempt to mislead the public. The ritual, performed following an August 8 rally addressed by Mallikarjun Kharge, has become a focal point of intense friction between the two parties. Rao specifically condemned the Karnataka Police for registering a zero FIR against Uttarakhand BJP leaders, labeling the move a clear example of the Congress party engaging in divisive politics.
Tensions are set to escalate on September 7, as the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee plans a march from Parade Ground toward the Chief Minister’s residence. The party continues to demand legal action against those who performed the ritual and against Uttarakhand BJP president Mahendra Bhatt for his public defense of the act. Meanwhile, the legal battle has widened to include the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, who faces an FIR under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for his comments on the incident. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi has repeatedly rejected claims of a caste-based motive, asserting that the opposition is merely fabricating narratives to create internal divisions.
