Eight months after Nikitha Godishala was found stabbed to death in her Maryland apartment, the man accused of her murder has been apprehended in India. Arjun Sharma, 26, was tracked to a flat in Agra by Hyderabad police, marking a major development in an international investigation spanning two continents.

Suspect in Indian Student's US Murder Arrested in Agra

The Howard County Police Department confirmed that Sharma is currently in custody and awaiting extradition to the United States to face first- and second-degree murder charges. Investigators believe the killing occurred on New Year's Eve 2025, shortly before the suspect fled the country.

While police identified Sharma as Godishala’s former partner, her family maintains the two were roommates and that the violence was rooted in financial disputes. According to her parents, Sharma had lost his job in late 2025 and owed significant sums to both the victim and other acquaintances in the United States. Following a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Anand Godishala, Indian authorities initiated a separate cheating investigation in Telangana, which ultimately provided the lead necessary to locate Sharma in Agra.

After his arrest, Sharma was presented before the Patiala House Court in New Delhi. He remains in custody as central agencies coordinate with US authorities to finalize his return to Maryland to stand trial.
