Eight Family Members Killed in Montana Shooting

A quiet Sunday dinner in Billings, Montana, turned into a scene of carnage when a man shot and killed eight of his relatives, including four children, before turning the weapon on himself. The violence left a multigenerational family devastated, spanning from a great-grandmother in her nineties to a seven-year-old girl.

Police arrived at the residence on Sunday evening to find the home engulfed in flames, with officers reporting gunfire from the backyard as they approached. Jennifer Mercer, who is coordinating funeral expenses, confirmed the victims represented four generations of a blended family. Neighbors reported hearing loud noises shortly after 6 p.m., initially mistaking the gunshots for fireworks until warnings from residents prompted them to look outside.

David Hiller, a neighbor living three doors down, described emerging from his home to find the cul-de-sac swarming with police in tactical gear. Officers took cover behind their vehicles as black smoke billowed from the burning structure. Authorities later confirmed multiple fatalities at the scene, identifying the perpetrator as one of the individuals who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
