Trump Claims Control of Strait of Hormuz as Iran Standoff Deepens

Claiming the critical waterway as future American soil, Donald Trump has doubled down on his territorial ambitions for the Strait of Hormuz. The President posted a map on Truth Social outlining the chokepoint as a new US territory, directly challenging Tehran’s ongoing blockade of the vital global energy artery.

The rhetoric marks the third time in two weeks that Trump has signaled an intent to annex the strait, a move he first teased during a New York rally on August 15. While Trump insists the United States maintains total control over the region, the reality on the ground remains dictated by Iranian forces, who have effectively shut down transit since February 28. Iran now mandates that any vessel seeking passage must secure explicit permission and pay transit fees, turning the waterway into a central front of the current conflict.

Tehran shows no sign of yielding to the pressure. Mohsen Rezaei, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, dismissed the President’s declarations as mere social media posturing. Rezaei stated that the strait will remain shuttered until the United States fulfills its international commitments and fundamentally changes its behavior. He further warned that Iran is prepared to escalate beyond military targets, threatening to strike American economic interests globally if sanctions persist. According to Rezaei, any nation aligning with Washington’s economic war will be treated as an enemy, signaling that the confrontation is approaching a volatile, high-stakes threshold.
