BJP Pushes Privilege Motion Against Rahul Gandhi Over House Remarks

Anurag Thakur’s notice, filed under Rules 222 and 223, centers on Gandhi’s classification of citizens into categories including 'idiots' and 'andhbhakts' during a speech. Thakur alleges these terms violate Rule 352, which prohibits offensive expressions and defamatory remarks against individuals or classes of people. The motion contends that repeating these labels after being warned by the Chair constitutes contempt of the House. Thakur has requested that the comments be expunged from the record and has called for an unconditional apology from Gandhi to both the House and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, suggesting the matter be referred to the Committee of Privileges for formal inquiry.
