The families, including the wife of an injured Assistant Commissioner of Police and the daughter of a Sub-Inspector, described the events as a deliberate attempt to sabotage a peaceful demonstration. The daughter of the Sub-Inspector, a former Marine Commando, alleged her father was nearly lynched by a mob and remained unconscious for four hours at RML Hospital. These accounts shift the focus toward the physical toll on law enforcement, contrasting with the narratives surrounding the student protesters.
This confrontation arrives on the heels of Gandhi’s push for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into alleged police brutality during those same protests. The political friction has deepened, with BJP MP Anurag Singh Thakur filing a privilege notice against Gandhi for his recent Lok Sabha remarks. Simultaneously, Congress MP KC Venugopal announced plans for a counter-motion against Union Minister Jitendra Singh, accusing him of misleading Parliament by denying reports of gunfire during the incident. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge dismissed the pressure on Gandhi, asserting that party members are prepared to defend their positions on the floor of the House.
