Families of Injured Delhi Police Officers Demand Justice After Protests

The sight of an injured officer returning home in a blood-stained uniform has become the catalyst for a new legal battle, as families of Delhi Police personnel claim that the July 20 student protest against the NEET paper leak was hijacked by violent agitators.

The wife of an Assistant Commissioner of Police described the aftermath of the July 20 demonstration at Jantar Mantar as a deeply traumatic experience for her and her two-year-old daughter. Her testimony joins a chorus of police families who are now seeking recourse through the Supreme Court. They allege that what began as a student protest regarding the NEET exam shifted into a volatile environment where officers were targeted by mobs.

One Sub-Inspector, a former Marine Commando with 15 years of service in the Indian Navy, was hospitalized for four hours after being assaulted near the protest stage. His daughter reported that he had previously warned the family that the demonstration had been infiltrated by antisocial elements. Upon seeing social media posts labeling her father a criminal, she took the initiative to organize with other affected families to secure legal representation. These families maintain that the agitators who attacked officers are now attempting to manipulate the judicial process to evade accountability, prompting them to demand that the perpetrators be held responsible for their actions.
