The upcoming session in Rome follows five previous rounds of U.S.-hosted discussions that established a framework for Hezbollah's disarmament and the phased retreat of Israeli forces. While the two nations maintain no formal diplomatic relations, the current process centers on the technical implementation of pilot zones to stabilize the border area.

Progress is already visible on the ground. Israeli military units have initiated a withdrawal from specific sectors of southern Lebanon, including Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh. This move serves as the primary test case for a broader peace arrangement intended to replace long-standing conflict with a structured security presence managed by the Lebanese state.
