The party remains committed to the existing federal framework, viewing the government's push as a departure from regional accountability.

Despite the pushback from the Congress, JPC Chairperson PP Chaudhary insisted that stakeholders across the political spectrum are signaling support for the reform. With Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Anil Desai also in attendance, the committee is moving toward a July 17 deadline to finalize its report. The proposed legislation, encompassing the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024, seeks to align Lok Sabha and state assembly terms, potentially rewriting the rules for how India elects its representatives.
