Ukraine Rejects Russian Ceasefire Offer for Kostiantynivka

A six-hour humanitarian window proposed by Moscow to recover the bodies of fallen soldiers in Kostiantynivka has been dismissed by Kyiv. The rejection follows conflicting reports over the status of the strategic Donetsk stronghold, which Russia claims to have captured while Ukrainian commanders maintain their defensive positions.

Moscow set a Sunday deadline of 0900 GMT for the Ukrainian government to accept the temporary truce, aiming to facilitate the exchange of remains. Despite the pressure, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and the General Staff have remained silent on the proposal, signaling a refusal to engage with the Russian military on the terms provided.

Control over Kostiantynivka remains a focal point of the eastern front, with the town serving as a long-term objective for Russian forces. While Russian officials insist their troops have secured the area, the lack of official acknowledgment from Kyiv underscores the persistent friction and the high-stakes battle for territorial legitimacy in the Donbas region.
