Bihar Restores Z-Category Security for Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi

After a brief period without high-level protection, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi have been granted reinstated 'Z' category security. The Home Department’s Special Branch issued the order following a formal recommendation from the State Security Committee to address the leaders' safety in a volatile climate.

The upgraded security detail includes dedicated bulletproof vehicles and specialized Headquarters Reaction Team support. This shift arrives months after the couple dismissed their remaining security personnel on June 6, following the initial withdrawal of their previous Z-plus cover.

The reinstatement coincides with a pointed dispute over state-owned housing. The Bihar government has ordered Rabri Devi to vacate her 10 Circular Road residence, which is slated for transfer to Minister Nand Kishore Ram. While officials offered her alternative housing on Hardinge Road in her capacity as Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, she has yet to relocate. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary recently signaled a stricter approach to this transition, asserting that government residences are public assets rather than personal property.
