Chandrima Bhattacharya Resigns as TMC State President

A violent fracture has split the Trinamool Congress, as State President Chandrima Bhattacharya resigned from all party posts following a reported takeover of the Kolkata headquarters by a dissident faction led by opposition figure Ritabrata Banerjee.

In a formal letter to Mamata Banerjee, the former minister surrendered her authority over party financial accounts and her role as the official liaison to the Election Commission of India. This departure marks the collapse of the leadership structure established in June 2026, leaving the organization in an administrative vacuum.

Expelled MLA Sandipan Saha backed the resignation, describing the environment within the Kalighat faction as increasingly toxic. As internal factions maneuver to seize control of party assets, BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya seized the moment to attack the TMC, citing systemic corruption and the alleged misappropriation of public welfare funds as the catalyst for the current disintegration.
