Fatal Quarry Collapse in Bengaluru Exposes Safety Failures

Eight workers died when a stone quarry in Bengaluru’s Madapattana collapsed, burying laborers under falling boulders. Among the victims was Dharmesh Singh, a blast machine operator whose family learned of his death from coworkers rather than officials, sparking urgent calls for transparency and accountability regarding site safety protocols.

Lal Singh, the father of the deceased, is demanding a comprehensive investigation into the structural failures that led to the catastrophe. Beyond seeking answers, the family is prioritizing the repatriation of Dharmesh’s body to his home in Pendra, Chhattisgarh. The incident underscores the precarious conditions endured by migrant laborers at the site, where heavy machinery and daily operations occur with minimal oversight.

Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge confirmed the death toll and stated that teams from the Mines and Geology Department are evaluating the scene. Because a significant portion of the workforce consists of migrants from other states, authorities face logistical hurdles in managing the aftermath. Officials are now tasked with compiling a detailed report to address the systemic negligence that allowed such a disaster to occur.
