Opposition Leaders Challenge Modi Over Response to US Vessel Attack

A sharp political rift has emerged following a deadly attack on a commercial vessel in the Gulf that claimed the lives of three Indian nationals. Arvind Kejriwal and Mallikarjun Kharge have publicly challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence, framing the government’s lack of a robust response as a failure of national sovereignty.

Opposition Leaders Challenge Modi Over Response to US Vessel Attack

Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal took to social media to denounce the administration's perceived complacency, alleging that American forces targeted Indian-inhabited commercial ships for three consecutive days without drawing a decisive rebuke from New Delhi. Kejriwal’s critique extended to the diplomatic arena, specifically targeting US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He characterized Rubio’s recent rhetoric toward External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar as threatening, further inflaming tensions between the two nations.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge joined the chorus of dissent, asserting that the incident reflects a broader decline in India’s global standing. Echoing these concerns, senior Congress leader Manish Tewari labeled the approach taken by Rubio during recent bilateral discussions as confrontational and disrespectful. The opposition’s unified stance highlights deep-seated frustration over the current management of foreign policy, casting doubt on the government's ability to protect Indian interests abroad.
