Sukhbir Badal Escalates Attacks on Amritpal Singh and AAP

Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal launched a fierce campaign offensive on Wednesday, dismissing Amritpal Singh as an unqualified political opportunist while accusing the ruling Aam Aadmi Party of systemic corruption. Addressing a rally ahead of the 2027 polls, Badal positioned his party as the only defender of Punjab’s stability.

Badal characterized the Waris Punjab De organization as a distraction, claiming its leadership is less interested in the release of Bandi Sikhs than in securing the political future of their jailed leader. The SAD chief questioned Amritpal Singh’s sudden rise to prominence, noting his 2022 return from Dubai and his subsequent takeover of the organization following the death of Deep Sidhu. He further alleged that Singh’s family maintained deep ties to the Congress party during the 1980s, casting doubt on his current claims of devotion to the Panth.

The attack extended to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, whom Badal labeled a betrayer of the faith. He accused the AAP leadership of prioritizing personal enrichment over governance, specifically citing unverified allegations of bribery against the Chief Minister’s family. Amid these claims, the political landscape remains fluid as the BJP signaled its intent to contest all 117 assembly seats independently, distancing itself from any potential reconciliation with the SAD. Badal dismissed his falling polling numbers as a consequence of his family’s commitment to secularism and peace, framing recent assassination attempts against him as part of a broader conspiracy to seize control of Punjab's religious institutions.
