H.S. Phoolka claims BJP path to Punjab power and hits out at Congress

The confidence expressed by Phoolka follows a high-level organisational review led by BJP National General Secretary B.L. Santhosh. With the 2027 assembly elections on the horizon, the party has signaled its intent to contest all 117 seats in the state. Phoolka emphasized that the internal party atmosphere is marked by enthusiasm, suggesting the region is primed for a decisive change in leadership.

Beyond electoral strategy, Phoolka directed sharp criticism at the Congress regarding the legal accountability of former MP Sajjan Kumar. Representing families of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots for decades, Phoolka argued that the Congress shielded Kumar from justice for years, granting him repeated political promotions. According to the advocate, the shift occurred only after the Modi administration applied the full weight of government mechanisms to the case. This legal pressure ultimately led to the 2018 Delhi High Court ruling that overturned a trial court acquittal and sentenced Kumar to life imprisonment. Kumar, who remained incarcerated until his death in August, became the focal point of Phoolka’s argument that the current political landscape represents a departure from past impunity.
