Three Infants Die in Amravati Hospital NICU Blaze

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a high-level inquiry into the disaster, pledging 5 lakh rupees in financial assistance to the affected families. He directed state health officials to visit the site immediately, promising strict consequences for those found responsible for the safety failures. The blaze, which appears to have originated from a ventilator spark on the hospital's third floor, forced a chaotic evacuation of the unit, which was housing premature and critically ill infants at the time.

Opposition leader Supriya Sule labeled the incident a glaring example of systemic negligence, calling for mandatory fire and equipment safety audits for all government and private hospitals in Maharashtra. While the exact cause remains under investigation, the state government has mandated that all surviving infants receive ongoing care at public expense. Six of the rescued children were transferred to a super-speciality facility as authorities work to determine how the equipment malfunction bypassed existing safety protocols.
