Prosecutors Drop Final Rape Charge in Weinstein New York Case

He continues to serve time for separate sexual felony convictions in both New York and California, including a case involving an Italian actress in Los Angeles. The dismissed charge, a lower-level felony, carried a maximum four-year sentence—a duration significantly shorter than the time he has already spent behind bars.

Prosecutor Nicole Blumberg told the court that the state remains committed to supporting Mann, praising her courage throughout the grueling legal process. Mann, who testified for five days during the most recent proceedings, noted in a letter read by the prosecution that she could no longer bear the toll of repeated trials. Defense attorney Jacob Kaplan argued that the case should never have been pursued, maintaining that the interactions were consensual. Weinstein, who appeared in court in a wheelchair, has consistently denied all allegations of assault despite his past admissions of inappropriate behavior.
