MVA Legislators Stage Protest Over Inflation During Assembly Session

A banner reading "A nation free from inflation, a BJP-free India" set the tone as Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi leaders gathered outside the state Assembly. The demonstration, led by Shiv Sena (UBT) figures Sunil Prabhu and Ambadas Danve, targeted the Centre’s recent fuel price hikes amid ongoing global trade route disruptions.

The protest coincides with a volatile Monsoon Assembly session, where the opposition continues to pressure the Devendra Fadnavis-led government. Earlier this week, legislators including Aaditya Thackeray and Vijay Wadettiwar demanded comprehensive loan waivers for farmers, signaling a broader strategy of confrontation against the ruling coalition.

Simultaneously, the Shiv Sena (UBT) is reeling from a significant internal fracture. Six Lok Sabha members recently defected to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, an event Shinde dubbed the successful conclusion of "Operation Tiger." The move has prompted sharp accusations from senior party leader Sanjay Raut, who questioned the financing behind the defectors' travel by chartered aircraft. As Uddhav Thackeray prepares to address the party's supporters regarding these defections, the political landscape in Maharashtra remains increasingly polarized.
