The eight-episode series, created by Tessa Coates, reimagines the high-stakes assassin genre by centering on female friendship rather than traditional romantic or domestic tropes. Filmed over nine months in Prague, the production aims for a cinematic scale, with Coates describing the project as essentially eight individual movies packed with intense action sequences.
For Spencer, 56, and Waddingham, 51, the project provided a rare opportunity to lead an action-heavy narrative as women in their 50s. Waddingham noted that the show blends the high-octane energy of the Bourne and Bond franchises with sharp, character-driven comedy. The chemistry between the leads sparked an immediate bidding war among streamers during the initial pitch, a reception the creators attribute to a significant, often overlooked appetite for stories featuring mature female leads. The series, which also stars Bill Nighy as the head of the covert agency, arrives on Prime Video on July 15.
