Soundararajan Urges CM Vijay to Champion Yoga and Women's Safety

Former Tamil Nadu BJP president Tamilisai Soundararajan has called on Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to take a visible lead in promoting yoga, suggesting that the state's young leadership should mirror the Prime Minister’s active participation in public health initiatives to foster wellness across the state.

Speaking at an International Yoga Day event in Gudiyatham, Vellore district, Soundararajan argued that yoga offers essential mental and physical resilience for politicians navigating the high-pressure environment of public service. She proposed that the Chief Minister institutionalize yoga practice within government offices and schools, framing the discipline as a tool for both personal health and broader societal stability.

Beyond public wellness, Soundararajan pivoted to the urgent issue of women's safety in Tamil Nadu. She pressed the Chief Minister to prioritize the prevention of sexual violence, noting that repeated expressions of anguish from the public must be met with concrete policy action. Her comments extended to the broader political landscape, where she praised the recent, orderly conduct of the Governor’s address as a sign of a healthy democratic shift compared to previous legislative sessions.

Addressing inter-state tensions, Soundararajan criticized the Congress party for perceived double standards regarding the Mekedatu dam project. She questioned the silence of state-level Congress ministers on the controversial initiative, which remains a flashpoint for conflict between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Her remarks follow the Tamil Nadu Assembly's recent unanimous resolution opposing the proposed dam, a move intended to safeguard the state's access to Cauvery river waters.
