Fujimori currently commands 50.11% of the vote against Sanchez’s 49.89%. While approximately 140,000 challenged ballots remain under review by the National Electoral Jury, analysts suggest the remaining pool—largely drawn from Lima and overseas constituencies—favors the right-wing candidate. Gonzalo Marquez, head of the data consultancy Caleidos, noted that the distribution of these outstanding votes makes a reversal of the current trend mathematically improbable.
This marks the fourth presidential bid for the daughter of the late Alberto Fujimori, who has previously suffered three runoff defeats, including a narrow loss to Pedro Castillo in 2021. Seeking to void ballots favoring his opponent, Sanchez has filed legal appeals and called for street protests, declaring that the contest remains unresolved. International observers from the Organization of American States and the European Union have countered these claims, describing the voting process as orderly and urging all parties to respect the final tally expected to emerge from the ongoing review.
