Child killed in drone strike on Belgorod playground

Maria Lvova-Belova, Russia's commissioner for children's rights, described the attack as an inhumane act. This tragedy follows a pattern of civilian casualties in areas adjacent to the fighting. In April 2025, a Russian missile strike on Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, killed 20 people, including nine children, when shrapnel hit a residential neighborhood near a playground. The International Criminal Court currently maintains active arrest warrants for both Lvova-Belova and President Vladimir Putin, citing the unlawful deportation of children from occupied Ukrainian territories, charges the Kremlin continues to deny.
