Rosatom alleges Ukrainian drone strike killed Zaporizhzhia plant worker

A drone strike on the city of Enerhodar has claimed the life of a central repair technician at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, according to Alexei Likhachev, head of Russia's state nuclear corporation. The incident marks another escalation in the ongoing struggle for safety at Europe's largest atomic facility.

Likhachev stated that a second employee remains in critical condition following the Wednesday attack, which targeted the residential hub for the station's workforce. He emphasized that the casualties involve core personnel essential to the facility's technical stability. While the Russian-controlled administration blamed Ukrainian forces for the strike, Kyiv has not issued a formal response to the allegations, and independent verification of the incident remains impossible due to the active conflict zone.

Russia seized the Zaporizhzhia plant shortly after the 2022 invasion, frequently trading blame with Ukrainian officials over military activity near the site. This latest fatality follows a similar report from April, when Russian authorities claimed another station employee died in a separate drone strike. The facility continues to operate under the shadow of persistent security warnings as both sides remain locked in a cycle of accusations regarding the safety of the reactors.
