Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei said earlier this week that Tehran would not negotiate or reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the conditions were met. Iran has not published an official list of the seven demands.
A Khaleej Times report said the demands likely include ending hostilities, including in Lebanon; lifting the US naval blockade on Iranian ports and sanctions on Iran; releasing frozen Iranian assets; reducing the US military presence in the region; compensating for war-related damage; and ending US attacks on Iranian territory. Washington has said nuclear issues must be included in any initial negotiations.
The proposal arrives as mediators step up efforts to end the war between Iran and the United States. US President Donald Trump has declined to rule out renewed combat after the US midterm elections, while Iran has said it plans a wider retaliation if the war resumes.
The United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28. Iran responded with strikes on Israel and Gulf states hosting US bases. Fighting also broke out in Lebanon between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah, and later spread to Yemen, where the Iran-aligned Houthis have struck energy facilities, airports and other targets in Saudi Arabia.
