Nino Mangione Wins Re-election to Baltimore County Council

The 39-year-old has campaigned on a tough-on-crime platform and greater support for law enforcement. He has described himself as a conservative Republican opposed to what he called “the ‘woke’ policies of the radical left.”

Nino Mangione is the grandson of real estate magnate Nick Mangione Sr., who owned nursing homes, country clubs and radio stations in Baltimore before his death in 2008. Nino and Luigi Mangione are among Nick Mangione Sr.’s 37 grandchildren.

After Luigi Mangione was arrested in December 2024 in connection with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, the family issued a statement through Nino, who was then a Maryland state delegate. “Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi's arrest. We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson, and we ask people to pray for all involved,” it said. Nino also cancelled a fundraiser shortly after the killing, saying it would be inappropriate given “the nature of this terrible situation” involving his cousin.

Nino Mangione represented District 42A in the Maryland House of Delegates from January 2023 until June 2026, when he resigned to take the county council seat. Luigi Mangione has pleaded guilty to two federal charges related to Thompson’s death and faces sentencing in December. He also faces eight state charges, including second-degree murder, to which he has pleaded not guilty. His lawyers are seeking dismissal of the state case, citing double-jeopardy protections against being tried twice for the same offence.
