Krishnamoorthi, representing Illinois’ 8th District, described the election results as a historic rebuke of President Donald Trump. He credited the surge in voter turnout among Indian Americans to a reactive stance against rising anti-Hindu and anti-South Asian sentiment. Pointing to the defeat of Beau French by John Rosenthal in the Texas railroad commissioner race, the Congressman noted that the community is increasingly flexing its political muscles to counter bigotry.
Economic pressure remains the primary driver for voters, according to Krishnamoorthi. He identified the rising costs of housing, healthcare, and daily essentials as direct consequences of blanket tariffs and the ongoing conflict in Iran. He expressed optimism that the new Democratic-led Congress could collaborate with Republicans to de-escalate the situation in Iran, thereby stabilizing both domestic costs and international relations.
Looking toward the 2028 presidential cycle, Krishnamoorthi urged the community to move beyond sporadic voting. He argued that sustained engagement, including running for office at local levels and supporting broader public causes, is essential for continued growth. While the current representation marks a milestone, he emphasized that the community has not yet reached its political peak.
