Ghalibaf took to social media following the election projections, declaring that American voters chose to prioritize their conscience and cost-of-living concerns over continued military engagement. His statement arrived on the heels of a directive from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who recently ordered Iranian armed forces to prepare for an immediate and unrestricted response to any foreign threat.
President Donald Trump, whose administration initiated joint strikes with Israel against Iran in February, acknowledged the war’s influence on the electoral outcome. While Trump told the Wall Street Journal that the conflict contributed to Republican losses, he insisted the military campaign remained the correct course of action. With the legislative shift, Democrats are now positioned to pursue a binding War Powers Resolution to force a conclusion to the hostilities. Previous attempts to curb the conflict through non-binding resolutions failed to halt the strikes, but the new political alignment in Congress provides a fresh mechanism to challenge the executive’s war strategy.
