Julius Baer initiates 600 million franc share repurchase

Beginning Monday, November 2, 2026, Julius Baer Group will deploy up to 600 million Swiss francs to repurchase its own shares. The bank confirmed the program will run for one year, marking a shift toward capital management following the resolution of recent regulatory scrutiny regarding its private debt portfolio.

The bank will execute purchases through a dedicated second trading line on the SIX Swiss Exchange, identified by the ticker BAERE SW. Financial impact from these acquisitions will be drawn directly from the firm's common equity tier 1 capital over the course of the next twelve months. Management signaled that the board intends to cancel the repurchased shares, utilizing the capital band authorization granted by shareholders during the April 9, 2026, annual general meeting.

This move follows the conclusion of enforcement proceedings by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (Finma) in late September. Regulators had identified significant compliance failures linked to the bank's exposure to René Benko and various Russian politically exposed persons. With those enforcement measures settled and new oversight protocols in place, the regulator cleared the path for the bank to resume its capital return strategy.
