India Plans Five-Year Extension for Export Incentive Scheme

India is preparing to extend the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Export Products program for another five years, seeking to sustain the momentum of its international trade. The initiative, currently slated to expire on September 30, serves as a cornerstone for maintaining competitive pricing for Indian goods in global markets.

The commerce ministry has formally requested 230 billion rupees—approximately $2.40 billion—from the finance ministry to fund the program through the 2026/27 financial year. By offsetting duties and taxes, the government aims to shield exporters from structural costs that might otherwise erode their margins abroad.

This policy shift underscores a broader strategic push to bolster the national economy. With the current deadline approaching, the proposed funding reflects an attempt to provide long-term predictability for domestic manufacturers navigating a volatile global trade environment.
