NBC News Helicopter Crashes During Live Coverage in Los Angeles

The disaster unfolded shortly before 7 p.m. as the crew captured aerial footage of an earlier collision between an SUV and a city bus that had already claimed two lives. On-board camera footage shows the helicopter hovering steadily before the frame begins to shake violently and the feed cuts to black. The impact site, located near a one-storey storage building, was quickly swarmed by more than 50 firefighters who worked to extinguish a blaze that consumed four vehicles and two storage containers.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Capt. Branden Silverman stated the helicopter was heavily damaged, complicating efforts to identify all victims. While officials confirmed at least one person on the ground was among the deceased, the total number of occupants inside the aircraft remains under investigation. One additional survivor was transported to a local hospital, though their condition is not yet public. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have launched a formal inquiry into the cause of the crash.
