BRS Leaders Detained During Telangana Assembly Protest

Barred from entering the Telangana Legislative Assembly, BRS Working President KT Rama Rao and former minister T Harish Rao were detained by police on Monday. The lawmakers, wearing protest T-shirts criticizing the Congress government’s performance, were stopped at the gates, sparking a tense confrontation and significant traffic disruption in the area.

Rama Rao accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of orchestrating a diversionary drama to stifle opposition voices. He drew a sharp comparison to national politics, questioning why rules enforced in the state assembly differ from those in Parliament. He pointedly noted that Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi frequently wear protest attire in the Lok Sabha without facing similar obstruction or detention.

The standoff follows a broader campaign by the BRS targeting the incumbent government’s record over its first 1,000 days in office. Before attempting to enter the Assembly, party members gathered at Gunpark to highlight the administration’s failure to implement promised guarantees. The incident underscores deepening friction between the ruling party and the opposition, as the BRS intensifies its criticism of the current legislative environment.
