Punjab Congress Chief Demands SSP Suspension Over Alleged Protest Assault

Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring demanded the immediate suspension of the Senior Superintendent of Police on Friday, citing the brutal assault of a citizen who waved a black flag at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Warring condemned the act as a severe violation of basic human rights.

The opposition leader alleged the man was not only beaten during the incident but was also coerced into consuming alcohol and drugs. Addressing reporters, Warring questioned the democratic standards of the current administration, asking if expressing political dissent through a black flag warrants such violent retribution. He publicly challenged the Chief Minister, stating that if this level of force becomes the standard response to protest, he would personally wave a black flag every day to test the government's reaction.

Warring further claimed that the crowds appearing at CM Mann’s public events are frequently bolstered by plainclothes police officers rather than genuine supporters. Beyond the demand for the SSP’s suspension, the Congress party has formally requested that the officers involved in the assault face immediate dismissal and criminal prosecution. The party is now seeking formal accountability from the state’s police administration regarding the conduct of its personnel.
