Azad claims that for over two months, the FIR has lacked critical provisions, including Section 307 and charges under the SC/ST Act, effectively shielding the attacker from serious legal consequences.
Support for the activist has reached the highest levels of the opposition, with Rahul Gandhi publicly accusing the central government of protecting the assailant. Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, questioning why an individual who openly admitted to the assault remains at large. Beyond physical threats, Azad reported a wave of online harassment, including rape threats, which she says has taken a severe toll on her mental health. As the 72-hour deadline set by the police begins, NSUI President Vinod Jakhar and other activists continue to pressure authorities to ensure accountability and the safety of those protesting in the capital.
