Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry National CSR Summit, Prabhu emphasized that mandates requiring companies to spend a portion of post-tax profits should not become counterproductive. Instead, he advocates for a regulatory environment that allows firms to tailor investments to local needs, ensuring that every rupee spent yields measurable community benefits. This strategic alignment, he contends, creates a cycle where grassroots prosperity fuels broader economic demand and purchasing power.
While acknowledging that India's recent GDP expansion remains broad-based across manufacturing, services, and agriculture, Prabhu cautioned that headline growth figures often mask disparities at the district level. He framed current economic performance as commendable despite global headwinds, yet insisted that sustainable development requires an "air cover" of geopolitical engagement to bolster export growth. True economic progress, in his view, depends on balancing top-line national metrics with the granular work of strengthening local economies through adaptive, community-focused corporate investment.
