Telangana BJP Chief Detained Following Nalgonda Travel Ban

State police detained Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao at his Hyderabad residence Tuesday, effectively blocking his planned visit to Nalgonda. The move follows a surge in political friction between the BJP and the ruling Congress party, with Rao claiming he has been placed under house arrest twice in three days.

Rao intended to meet with Nalgonda district president Varshit Reddy, whose home was allegedly ransacked by political opponents recently. During the incident, Reddy’s mother reportedly sustained injuries. Rao condemned the state administration, characterizing the current political environment as an undemocratic atmosphere even more volatile than the Emergency era.

The detention comes amid mounting accusations of violence between the two parties. Rao alleges that Congress-affiliated groups targeted the BJP state office and vandalized property, driven by frustration over shifting support among students and youth regarding fee reimbursement policies. Warning of potential retaliation, the BJP leader urged the state government to halt what he described as a pattern of lawlessness, threatening serious consequences if the targeting of party cadres continues.
