Ndegwa faces a sharp contrast in regional mandates. In Thailand, his immediate focus involves finalizing a new Country Partnership Framework ahead of the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings. This roadmap prioritizes private sector competitiveness, climate resilience, and long-term economic expansion. Current investments in the country already span carbon markets, water security, and digital transformation, providing a base for the nation's 2037 high-income target.
Conversely, his work in Myanmar adheres to the Bank’s 2026–2030 strategy for fragile and conflict-affected settings. Operating through third-party partners, the organization intends to bypass traditional state channels to support food security and protect human capital. Ndegwa joins the post with over two decades of experience, including his recent tenure as Division Director for the Pacific Islands and previous roles in Afghanistan and Serbia. He holds a PhD in Political Science and Public Policy from Indiana University.
