State party officials condemned the detention, accusing the Congress-led government of shielding perpetrators rather than upholding the law. According to the BJP, Rao intended to offer support to the victims of the attack, which left Reddy’s residence ransacked and his mother injured. The party maintains that this administrative intervention is a calculated effort to prevent opposition leaders from addressing the fallout of the partisan clash.
This incident coincides with a period of heightened political friction. Just two days prior, Rao engaged in a public spat with Rahul Gandhi over a purification ritual performed after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge visited Uttarakhand. Rao accused the Leader of the Opposition of exploiting regional and caste-based sentiments to generate discord, further alleging that the Congress party has a historical pattern of undermining figures like B.R. Ambedkar. The house arrest signals a deepening rift between the state government and the BJP leadership as both sides trade accusations of political manipulation.
