BJP Criticizes Punjab Government Over Handling of Employee Strikes

BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia attacked the Bhagwant Mann administration on Monday, labeling its response to protesting government employees as repressive. Bhatia condemned the state’s decision to pursue disciplinary action against workers demanding the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, pending allowances, and the resolution of long-standing pay grievances.

Bhatia specifically targeted a government directive that mandates the identification of striking employees for potential punitive measures. He likened the administration’s tactics to authoritarian rule, arguing that a government which rose to power through public agitation should not now criminalize the same right to dissent. "Is it wrong to go on strike over one's demands?" he asked, accusing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of prioritizing subservience to Arvind Kejriwal over the welfare of the state workforce.

Beyond labor disputes, the BJP leader challenged the AAP’s track record, citing unfulfilled campaign promises regarding financial assistance for women. He demanded transparency on the use of public funds, insisting that both Mann and Kejriwal address the financial mismanagement allegations leveled by the unions. Bhatia dismissed the notion that the government could ignore these mounting pressures, asserting that the party’s previous reliance on protest as a political tool makes their current intolerance toward employee grievances a clear case of double standards.
