JSMM Leader Calls for Unified Nationalist Front in Sindh

Declaring the province under colonial occupation, Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz chairman Shafi Burfat has issued a stark appeal for political unity among Sindhi nationalist factions. He argues that only a cohesive, long-term movement can effectively challenge the Pakistani state’s control over the region's land, water, and natural resources.

Burfat’s call to action follows the 'Wahdat-i-Sindh' rally in Karachi, organized by the Sindh United Party under Syed Zain Shah. The JSMM chief praised the event as a vital expression of geographical unity, urging diverse groups to set aside internal friction to confront existential threats to Sindh’s political autonomy and national identity. He contends that individual protests and minor legislative wins must not be mistaken for final victories, but rather treated as incremental steps toward the ultimate objective of national liberation.

To build momentum, Burfat advocates for a comprehensive, grassroots mobilization strategy connecting villages, educational institutions, and the global Sindhi diaspora. He maintains that the people of Sindh possess a fundamental right to self-determination under international law, envisioning an independent 'Sindhudesh.' According to Burfat, the current struggle remains focused on reclaiming control over coastal areas and river systems from the Pakistani military and state apparatus, requiring international advocacy to amplify the movement’s anti-colonial narrative.
