Viral TikTok Leads Authorities to Staged Crash Ring in Queens

Jaime Huiracocha, 53, and Victor Murillo, 34, pleaded guilty to insurance fraud after investigators traced a series of three accidents back to their coordinated efforts. The pair systematically targeted drivers on the Belt Parkway, with Murillo performing sudden stops or backing into victims while Huiracocha managed the logistics from a trailing vehicle. Following each impact, the duo employed a practiced routine: they would switch drivers, obscure the vehicle's rear window with plastic bags, and fake physical injuries to maximize insurance claims.

The operation netted over $80,000 across three incidents between August and October 2024. The third crash, captured by a bystander and circulated widely on TikTok, provided the essential evidence required for authorities to work backward and identify the perpetrators. Beyond the two ringleaders, accomplices Maikel Martinez and Ivon Matus-Martinez also entered guilty pleas. Governor Kathy Hochul noted that such staged accidents have tripled in the state over the last five years, reaching 1,700 reported cases in 2023 alone. Huiracocha and Murillo are now facing prison sentences of one and two years, respectively.
