Rohit Pawar demands MPSC leadership resign over exam irregularities

The Maharashtra Public Service Commission has scrapped its Drug Inspector recruitment process after an investigation confirmed a candidate accessed the exam paper early. NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar, who pushed the investigation, is now demanding the immediate resignation of the commission’s chairman and secretary, citing a total failure of integrity.

Pawar, speaking at a press conference in Pune, framed the cancellation as a hard-won victory for students from farming and lower-income backgrounds. He emphasized the immense financial and personal sacrifices made by families to fund competitive exam preparation, arguing that systemic paper leaks represent a betrayal of these efforts. The MLA alleged that three officials were directly involved in the breach and urged authorities to make the registered FIRs public immediately.

Beyond the specific FDA recruitment failure, Pawar challenged the leadership credentials of the MPSC chairman, linking his appointment to political patronage. He warned that if the commission's top officials do not step down, his supporters will initiate an intense protest outside the MPSC office on September 1. Furthermore, Pawar pushed back against potential shifts toward online testing, insisting that the government must maintain offline formats while ensuring the oversight of a credible, untainted leadership team. He noted that previous examination cycles for departments including Water Resources and State Excise have also been marred by similar allegations, suggesting a pattern of administrative negligence that demands accountability.
