Mykhailo Fedorov Shifts Focus to Silicon Valley Tech Ventures

Following his July dismissal from Ukraine's defence ministry, former minister Mykhailo Fedorov is preparing for a trip to the United States to secure private funding for military technology projects. The move signals a transition from government service to the private sector, leveraging his established ties with major U.S. technology firms.

Fedorov intends to launch several initiatives, including an investment fund designed to bolster Ukraine’s domestic defence industry. His strategy centers on scaling innovations in drone warfare, satellite communications, and artificial intelligence—technologies that have become vital to Kyiv’s battlefield performance. While he remains a prominent voice in Ukraine’s tech-government nexus, sources close to the former minister maintain that his upcoming travel is strictly professional rather than political. He is not currently scheduled to meet with U.S. government officials, effectively distancing his fundraising efforts from his recent, controversial public demand for wartime elections.

His departure from the Zelenskiy administration follows a period of friction, particularly over his push for elections currently barred by martial law. By pivoting to military-tech ventures, Fedorov utilizes his existing relationships with industry titans like SpaceX founder Elon Musk to maintain influence outside the state apparatus. This approach allows him to bypass traditional political channels while continuing to shape Ukraine's military capabilities through private innovation. Should these projects attract the intended capital, they may offer a sustained platform for the former minister, positioning him at the intersection of international investment and Ukraine’s evolving defence sector.
