Imran Khan Returned to Prison Despite Court Health Directives

Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan was abruptly returned to prison following a brief medical evaluation, defying a Supreme Court order that mandated his continued clinical supervision. The government maintains he is fit for incarceration, while his party decries the move as a direct challenge to the judiciary’s authority.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed Khan’s transfer back to custody after an overnight examination by state doctors. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party immediately labeled the decision an open violation of the Supreme Court’s directive, which had specifically ordered the former leader’s treatment at a private hospital. Instead, authorities cited security risks to justify keeping him within a state-run facility before clearing him for imprisonment.

Legal representatives for the former Prime Minister have repeatedly raised alarms regarding his deteriorating health, claims the government consistently rejects as political theater. With the PTI planning nationwide demonstrations to demand his release, the discrepancy between the court’s requirements and the state’s actions has deepened the ongoing standoff between the ruling administration and Khan’s supporters.
