Congress and BJP Clash Over Vande Mataram Recitation

A sharp political confrontation has erupted between the Congress party and the BJP following allegations of disrespect toward Vande Mataram during Independence Day celebrations. The controversy ignited after footage emerged of senior Congress leaders conversing during the song's rendition, prompting immediate demands for a public apology from the ruling party.

Congress MP Pawan Khera escalated the dispute by questioning the historical role of the RSS in India's freedom struggle, challenging the organization's moral authority to dictate nationalistic expressions. The party maintains that its practice of singing only the first two stanzas aligns with long-standing 1937 resolutions upheld by Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru.

General Secretary KC Venugopal dismissed the BJP’s criticism as opportunistic political maneuvering, asserting that the song remains a deeply emotional subject for his party. While BJP leaders continue to frame the incident as a deliberate slight, Congress officials have moved to close the issue, labeling the entire episode a misunderstanding and insisting that their commitment to the national anthem and song remains steadfast.
