Pakistan Supreme Court Orders Imran Khan Hospital Transfer

Pakistan’s Supreme Court has intervened in the incarceration of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, ordering his immediate transfer from prison to a medical facility. The 73-year-old political leader, held in Rawalpindi since August 2023, faces deteriorating health, specifically citing significant vision loss in one eye during his time behind bars.

Justice Shahid Waheed, presiding over a three-judge bench, issued the directive to prioritize the prisoner's physical well-being. According to the court order, Khan must be moved to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within 48 hours to undergo a comprehensive evaluation by a specialized medical panel. The decision follows persistent advocacy from his family and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, who have long raised alarms regarding his conditions of detention. A spokesperson for Khan confirmed the timeline for the transfer, while PTI leadership is now pressing for strict and immediate compliance with the judicial mandate.
