Trump Honors California Lifeguard for Daring Ocean Rescue

Ryder Williams, a 16-year-old lifeguard, stood in the Oval Office on Monday to receive personal recognition from President Donald Trump. Last July, Williams pulled 10-year-old Nathaniel Rai from the treacherous surf at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz, a life-saving act that captured national attention after footage went viral.

The rescue occurred on July 25 when Williams noticed the boy struggling against powerful waves just 20 yards from his station. Williams credited his rapid response to intensive training, noting that his primary focus was extracting the child from the water as quickly as possible. The teenager was joined at the White House by his parents and fellow lifeguard Aaron Bonin, who assisted during the operation.

President Trump praised Williams as a hero while hosting the Rai family, including Nathaniel and his father Sumit, who expressed deep gratitude for the lifeguard's intervention. During the meeting, the President joked with the young boy about his narrow escape before offering a private tour of the White House, including the historic room where Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
